WASHINGTON, DC – – The DC Grays improved to 9-10 on the season as they defeated the Gaithersburg Giants at the Nationals Youth Academy by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday night. The win brought the Grays into a tie with the Giants for third place in the Ripken League. 

The Grays started the scoring in to bottom of the second with a two-RBI single from 3B Josh Congdon (Wofford). The Giants responded and tied it at two in the top of the fourth, and both teams exchanged runs again to tie the score at four in the fifth inning.  A pair of Grays doubles to start the bottom of the fifth from 1B Austin Deming (BYU) and RF Jordan Wiley (Louisiana Lafayette) gave the Grays a 5-4 lead, which LF Noah Searcy (Georgia Southern) extended to 6-4 with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.  The teams traded runs in the eighth, and scoring ended at 7-5.

The Grays’ pitchers were solid all around in the win. P Tyler Gault (Notre Dame College) started on the mound and allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings. P Jacob Hardney (Marymount U) earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief work, allowing 2 runs. P Rasesh Pandya (Wofford Col) threw two effective innings in relief innings of relief, only allowing one run on two hits. P Jarren Norman (Virginia St) picked up the save by retiring the Giants in order in the ninth.

The Grays get the day off on Wednesday before traveling to Alexandria on Thursday night to take on the 6-10 Aces at Frank Mann Field.
