The DC Grays lost a heartbreaker on the road against Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts on Friday, as the DC bullpen gave away an early lead. The loss leaves the T-Bolts and Grays in a tie for second in the Cal Ripken League at 13-12.
The Grays’ bats tallied six runs on six hits. RF Jordan Wiley (Louisiana Lafayette) went one for two with an RBI double and three walks. The Grays drew 13 walks but couldn’t cash in, leaving thirteen runners on base.
The Grays’ pitching started out well, with P Hayden Wynja (Perdue) getting the start and delivering five solid innings. P Jarren Norman (Virginia State) added two more innings allowing one run on three hits. Then some trouble started for the Grays’ bullpen, conceding three runs in the bottom of the eighth to give the T-Bolts a 7-6 lead.
The Grays have a doubleheader Saturday back home at the Nationals Youth Academy as they take on the Alexandria Aces, who are 9-15 this season.
