In 2016, DC Grays Baseball partnered with Major League Baseball to bring MLB's Reviving Baseball in Inner-cities (RBI) program back to the nation's capital. DC Grays RBI was launched that summer, and we've been growing ever since.
By offering free baseball and softball programs to boys and girls from all over Washington, DC Grays RBI is bringing baseball to underserved areas of our community. The majority of kids in DC Grays RBI are from Wards 6, 7 and 8 – the most economically-disadvantaged areas of the city.
Our program is made up of the following: Ward 7 Baseball - our summer "house" league for kids 10-12 years old. Junior Travel Baseball - this is for more advanced players ages 10-12. Junior Softball - this is for girls up to age 12. Senior Travel Baseball (15U/18U) - these are our highest-level travel teams. Senior Travel Softball - this is a comprehensive program with teams in three age groups competing against regional travel teams.
We are pleased that DC Grays RBI includes kids from several DC Little Leagues - including Mamie Johnson LL, Ward 8 LL, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) LL and Banneker City LL - as well as many middle school and high school baseball programs. We are always reaching out to additional Little Leagues and other youth baseball and softball programs to get more kids to participate in DC Grays RBI.
We want to make baseball and softball more available to more kids - regardless of ability to pay. That's why all DC Grays programs are offered at no cost.
DC Grays RBI also runs a fall baseball and softball program and a winter indoor training season. This year, DC Grays RBI will be partnering with DC Dynasty so that DC Grays RBI players will have access to top-flight indoor facilities on a regular basis.
