SILVER SPRING, MD – The DC Grays dropped a pair on Tuesday night in Silver Spring – one a shortened game and one a regulation one.
Before the regularly scheduled game started there was business to be finished. Last Wednesday the game was tied 2-2 and was suspended because of rain in the seventh inning. The Grays fell in the finished game 6-2, then the T-Bolts completed the semi-sweep 4-3 in the second game. The losses put the Grays at 11-19.
The T-Bolts wasted no time in claiming the lead in the suspended game. They scored three in the seventh and one in the eighth capped by a 1B Michael Fitzsimmons (Mississippi) home run.
The second game started with even more scoring. The Grays put up two in the first when DH Christian Robinson (Stanford) scored on a 2B Lamar Briggs (Jackson State) single. 1B Miles Jones (Eastern Kentucky) then scored Briggs with a single of his own.
The T-Bolts added one in the bottom half then two more in the third when Carl Colbert double in a run then scored on a DH Garett Stonehouse (Elon) single. Stonehouse and Colbert each finished with two hits and an RBI on the second game.
The Grays all-star Briggs finished with three hits in four at bats and has boosted his average to .398.
RHP David Mervis (Palm Beach State CC) came out of the bullpen for the Grays and went three scoreless innings only giving up one hit and striking out five.
The Grays will stay on the road and face the Alexandria Aces on Wednesday night at 7 pm. Pitching for the Grays will be RHP Matthew Franklin (Roanoke).
