Grays, Ripken League invest in technology to improve player performance
May 28, 2025
The use of technology and analytics to improve how players perform and how data is analyzed is becoming more and more prevalent throughout baseball. The Ripken League has been at the forefront of this technological revolution in summer college baseball, and now the Grays are building on that work.
For three years, the Ripken League has been working with Trackman - and Trackman cameras are now installed at all Ripken League parks. The Trackman system measures spin rate for pitchers, exit velocity for batter and a host of other tangible metrics. The Ripken also initiated a new program for 2025 with Synergy Sports - a radar system that operates from two cameras mounted at every Ripken League park - typically one near centerfield and one in the press box. Data from both systems will be made available to MLB organizations and their scouting departments.
Thanks to a revamped Grays coaching staff that is very analytically inclined, the Grays are also investing in cutting-edge technology to improve performance. At the behest of new Grays manager Jack Besser and new assistant coach Will Parkinson, the team will be utilizing Paradigm Player Development Solutions to maximize pitcher performance. Both Besser and Parkinson worked with Paradigm at Columbia University this spring. Paradigm provides best-in-class pitcher analysis, including detailed pitch and mechanical breakdowns and personalized drill and workout recommendations.
"Coach Besser spoke highly of the Paradigm system, and we felt we wanted to give him all the tools that he needs to help our pitchers reach their potential," said Grays General Chris Spera. "It's an investment we are happy to make."
