Grays Battle Back Late, But Thunderbolts Hold On for 13–5 Win
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays' late offense wasn't enough, as they were defeated by the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts 13-5 at their home field.
This game began with both teams preventing each other from scoring in the first inning including Grays starter Zander Leckszas (Dickinson) throwing 2 strikeouts. The Thunderbolts were the first team on the board, scoring a run in the second inning to go up 1-0.
The Thunderbolts would continue to build their lead over the next couple innings, getting up to a 10-0 advantage by the middle of the sixth inning.
The Grays offense began to heat up in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they were able to get their first runs of the game. They got these runs off of an Andrew Bogansky (Marist) ground out to score Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State) as well as courtesy runner Joey Chitla (William & Mary) scoring on a wild pitch.
The Grays would continue their offensive momentum in the seventh inning with 2 more runs from an Andrew Bogansky (Marist) single to score Caden Brown (Southern) and Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State).
The Grays wouldn't score in the eighth with the Thunderbolts adding on 2 more runs, but would score in the ninth on what was undoubtedly the play of the game and arguably the play of the Grays' season so far. Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State) crushed a ball to right center field over the fence on a solo home run for the last run scored in the 13-5 loss for the Grays at home.
Stallworth (Pensacola State) had an impressive performance of 2-4, scoring 3 runs, and the solo home run with Andrew Bogansky (Marist) having another solid performance in the early season going 3-4 with 2 RBIs.
The Grays have their next game 6/6 at the Alexandria Aces at Frank Mann Field and are looking to put this loss past them.
