By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays were able to hold onto a win after a suspension to the game due to weather to beat the Metro South County Braves 10-7.
The game started out with the Braves getting off to a quick lead in the early innings, scoring 3 runs in the first and 2 in the third to go up 5-0.
The Grays would then have their best inning of the season on offense in the fifth inning, totaling 9 runs.
Carter-Sweeney Strawberry (Rutgers) was the first to cross the plate after Hartley Rahman (Catawba) was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Travis Church (Marist) was next on the board after Connor Lawrence (Marist) worked a walk.
Andrew Bogansky (Marist) was next to score off of a Jackson Loomis (Denison) single. The Grays continued their scoring via Hartley Rahman (Catawba) scoring on wild pitch and the Grays had all the momentum at this point. Connor Lawrence (Marist) was next to score off of another wild pitch.
The Grays took the lead off a huge double from Evan Rosario (Shepherd) to score both Peyton Ford (California of Penn) and Jackson Loomis (Denison). Evan Wilson (Richmond) scored off of a Travis Church (Marist) sacrifice fly and the Grays ended the inning with Evan Rosario (Shepherd) scoring on a wild pitch, with the score being 9-5.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the game was suspended due to weather conditions and would pick up on 6/14 on Robert J Talbot. Field. The Braves would start this continuation hot and score a run in the seventh to put all the pressure on the Grays at a 9-6 game.
The Grays would respond in the eighth, with Hartley Rahman (Catawba) scoring a run due to an error. The Braves would tack on a run in the eighth to make it a 3 run game once again going into the ninth.
After the Grays were held scoreless in the top of the ninth, James Pedas (Dickinson) was tasked with protecting the lead. Pedas delivered, recording the final five outs without allowing a run to seal the 10-7 victory. Chris Fortunato (Dickinson) earned the win after pitching five innings and keeping the Grays within reach before their nine-run fifth inning comeback.
Evan Rosario (Shepherd) led the way for the Grays, going 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Hartley Rahman (Catawba) contributed offensively as well, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
The Grays look to extend their winning streak against the Gaithersburg Giants 6/15 at Criswell Automotive Field.
