Grays Unable to Overcome Early Deficit in 13-1 Loss
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays' offense went cold on the road, leading to a 13-1 loss against the Gaithersburg Giants in Gaithersburg.
This game started off with the Giants quickly scoring 2 runs in the first inning and 4 in the second to go up to a quick 6-0 lead. The Grays were able to get on the board with a Jackson Loomis (Denison) single bringing Joey Chitla (William & Mary) to home plate on the Grays' lone run of the game.
The Giants scored another 5 runs in the fourth inning, and then the Grays' defense did a solid job of preventing runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Giants would score another run in the seventh and the game would end after that inning due to mercy rule 13-1.
While it wasn't a great day for the Grays' offense, there were still some solid individual performances. Joey Chitla (Willia & Mary) continued his impressive season, hitting 1-3 and scoring a run today. Jackson Loomis (Denison) was another top performer, going 2-3 at the plate, driving in a RBI, and stealing 2 bases.
The Grays look to bounce back from this game and play the Bethesda Big Train 6/16 at Robert J Talbot field at 7PM.
