Grays Extend Win Streak to Four Behind Explosive Bats
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays' bats had a huge day and were able to increase the team's win streak to 4 with an upset on the road against the Southern Maryland Senators at North Point High School.
The Grays started this game hot, with them scoring in the first inning via a Jackson Loomis (Denison) single to score Hartley Rahman (Catawba). They would build their lead off an absolute bomb from Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State) on a solo home run to go up to a 2 run advantage.
The Senators would respond quickly, scoring 1 run in the second and 2 runs in the third to take the lead, though the Grays wouldn't let that stay the case. The Grays would score 3 runs in the fourth, with the first of these runs being a Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern) single to score Peyton Ford (Cal. U of PA).
Bikar Jr. (Southern) was next to score with a Ryan Stoddard (Lafayette) single driving him in. Travis Church (Marist) drove in the third and final run of the inning for the Grays to score Stoddard (Lafayette) on a single.
The Senators responded quickly, scoring 2 runs to end the fourth inning to tie the game. After a scoreless fifth for both teams, the Grays retook the lead on a Hartley Rahman (Catawba) single to score Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State). Jackson Loomis (Denison) would keep this momentum, scoring Travis Church (Marist) on a single.
The Grays' bats would stay hot in the seventh inning, with them increasing their lead with an Evan Wilson (Richmond) single to score Peyton Ford (Cal of Pennsylvania). Travis Church (Marist) would then score both Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern) and Evan Wilson (Richmond).
The Senators would cut into the lead in the seventh, scoring 2 runs to reduce the Grays' lead to 3 going into the final 2 frames. Evan Wilson (Richmond) would put the nail in the coffin, going yard on a solo home run to get the Grays to a 4 run advantage.
The Senators would score once more in the eighth, however reliever Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State) wouldn't allow them to close the gap any more, securing the Grays win at 11-8 on the road.
The Grays bats came up big today, with huge individual performances throughout. Evan Wilson (Richmond) would lead the way, hitting 2 for 5, scoring 2 runs including the homer in the eighth to ice the game, driving in 2 RBIs, and stealing a base. Travis Church (Marist) would also look impressive, going 3 for 5 from the plate, scoring a run, and driving in 3 RBIs. Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State) had a large impact as well, hitting 2-5, scoring 2 runs including a homer in the second, and driving in 2 RBIs.
