Grays Fall 7-1 to Cropdusters Despite Strong Pitching Performance
By: Jackson Loomis
On June 25th, James Pedas (Dickinson) started on the mound for the DC Grays in their home game against the Olney Cropdusters. The Cropdusters ended up winning 7-1.
James Pedas (Dickinson) threw for the first 3 innings and was followed by Chris Fortunato (Stevenson) who threw the rest of the game. After the Cropdusters got on the board in the first inning with a home run, the Grays responded with a hit by Hartley Rahman (Catawba) and a double by Jackson Loomis (Denison) to earn the only run on the day for the Grays.
This was a clean game of baseball, with only one error for each team. The Grays played strong in the field with 8 total chances at second base for Beny Bikar Jr (Southern).
James Pedas (Dickinson) and Chris Fortunato (Stevenson) were the only two arms that took the mound for the Grays. The pitching struck out 6 and only walked one batter. The efficient pitching for the Grays significantly picked up the pace of today's game. The game only lasted a little over two hours.
Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State), Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern), Jackson Loomis (Denison), Hartley Rahman (Catawba), and Ben Drinkwine (North Carolina Wilmington) all got one hit on the day. The hits weren't strung together as much in this game but the Grays hit the ball hard to all parts of the field. It was a respectable showing from the DC Grays and it will be interesting to see how they can bounce back against the Southern Maryland Senators.
