Brown Dominates as Grays Hold Off Senators, 5-4

The Grays were able to hold on at home to win 5-4 in a razor close game to start their doubleheader against the Senators.

Caden Brown (Southern) would start on the mound for D.C., and would absolutely torch the Senators, allowing only 3 hits for 1 run in his 4 innings pitched including 7 strikeouts on the day. The Grays offense would feed off this performance, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning to start their offense off firing. They'd score off of a Peyton Ford (U Cal of Penn) single to score Joey Chitla (William & Mary), a Travis Church (Marist) sacrifice fly to score Xavier Bradley (Southern) and a Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern) single to score both Ryan Stoddard (Lafayette) and Peyton Ford (U Cal of Penn).

The Senators would cut into the lead in the 4th and 5th frames, scoring a run in each to get the score to 4-2. The Grays would come back and extend their lead to 3 on a Joey Chitla (William & Mary) sacrifice fly to score Carter Sweeney-Strawberry (Rutgers).

After the Senators would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to get the game within a single run, reliever Nelson Hayes (Georgetown) would deliver the final out and the Grays would win 5-4 to kick off their doubleheader.

Carter Sweeney-Strawberry (Rutgers) would have a great game at the plate, hitting 2-2, scoring a run, and taking a walk. Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern) would also impress, going 1-3 at the dish with 2 RBIs driven in.

The Grays would have their second game of the 7/19 doubleheader at 7PM at Robert J. Talbot where they would be playing as the away team.
