GAME RECAP 7-8-2015
By: Anna Dunlavey; @annadunlaveyy The DC Grays got a rain soaked win last night, capitalizing on some uncharacteristically sloppy play by the visiting Baltimore Redbirds. The Grays beat the defending Ripken League champs 5-3, and are now 11-18 on the season. RF Harrison Bruce (University of San Francisco) started his first game with the Grays last night, and scored his first run in the first inning. After walking to get on base, he scored from first on an error by the left fielder. C Kurt Sinnen (Old Dominion) backed Bruce up with a run scored on a wild pitch in the third. The Redbirds scored to cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Keifer Rawlings (Bucknell) walked to bring up 2B Mike Caputo (Seton Hall). Caputo laid down a great bunt, and reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher. Rawlings scored on the play. Caputo then scored after Bruce hit into a fielder’s choice. SS Drew Reid (Harvard) scored the game’s final run in the top of the seventh. He reached second on an error and scored from third on a wild pitch. Harry Thomas (UNC-Greensboro) got his third win of the season after pitching 6.2 innings. He gave up two runs on six hits, struck out four batters, and walked one. Maverik Buffo (Brigham Young) came on in relief for 1.1 innings. Buffo gave up two hits and a run, and struck out two batters. Enrique Oquendo (Lamar) got the save after pitching a stellar ninth, striking out all three batters he faced. Tonight, the Grays will travel to Baltimore to face the league’s other Baltimore-based team, the Baltimore Dodgers.
