6-11-15 GAME RECAP By Anna Dunlevy: @annadunlaveyy The DC Grays managed to eke out a win last night over the homestanding Rockville Express Montgomery College. The Grays had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Express scored two runs before the Grays could close the game. The 3-2 win brings the Grays’ record to 3-3 on the season. Rawlings singled to centerfield, and then advanced to second and third on two more hits before scoring on a sacrifice fly from LF Kane Hassan (Saint Mary’s). In the top of the fifth, CF Bryan Baquer (Washington College) was hit by a pitch with two outs, and Rawlings singled to move Baquer to second. DH Kurt Sinnen (Old Dominian) then hit a double to center field to score both Baquer and Rawlings. Starting pitcher Connor Van Hoose (Bucknell) pitched six shutout innings. He gave up three hits and struck out four batters. Marlon Pruitt (Grambling State), one of the Grays most reliable relievers, came to pitch scoreless baseball in the seventh and eighth innings. Zack Irwin (Mississippi State) came in to pitch the ninth. The Grays got the first out, but Irwin then gave up two singles and hit a batter to load the bases. The Express’ first run of the game scored on a walk, and the second scored on a fielder’s choice. Luckily, the Grays were able to get the final Express batter to seal the win. The Grays return home to the Nationals Youth Academy tonight to play the Vienna River Dogs at 7:00pm. Maverick Buffo (Brigham Young) is the expected starting pitcher for the Grays.
