GAME RECAP 6-16-2015 By: Anna Dunlavey @annadunlavey The DC Grays scored a run in the first inning of yesterday’s game against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, but were unable to score again. The Thunderbolts, on the other hand, were able to take advantage of the Grays’ errors to score four runs and beat the Grays 4-1. The Grays’ only run of the game was scored by DH Kurt Sinnen (Old Dominion). He walked with two outs in the top of the first, and 1B Taylor King (Memphis) drove him in on an RBI double to center. The Thunderbolts, however, immediately struck back. Their first batter reached on an error and made it to third after a failed pickoff attempt before scoring on a sacrifice fly. The situation replayed itself in the fourth inning, when another Thunderbolts batter got from first to third on a failed pickoff attempt and then scored. The other two runs were scored on a bases loaded walk and a bases loaded double play. Starting pitcher Layton Dill (East Mississippi CC) was tagged with the loss. Dill threw five complete innings, and gave up four runs on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Bailey Spence (Cecil CC) relieved Dill in the top of the sixth after a leadoff double. That runner scored, but Spence gave up no runs or hits and one walk. Ryan Garner (Memphis) pitched the seventh, striking out two and walking three. He gave up no hits or runs. Steve Ghiardi (Millersville) came out for the eighth, and he gave up one hit and struck out one batter. Tonight, the Grays are on the road again to play the Baltimore Redbirds. Connor Van Hoose (Bucknell) is expected to start for the Grays.
