GAME RECAP (6-22-2016 Grays vs Giants)
By: DCGrays.com Press; Josh Shelton @JoshNLISports The DC Grays kept their recent hot streak alive with a 6-3 home win Wednesday night against the Gaithersburg Giants. The win moves the Grays to 8-6 on the season, good enough for a share of the lead of the Ripken League South division. No time was wasted getting the offense going as LF Luke Robinson (Lafayette) hit a lead off home run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. RF Jawan McAllister (Pittsburgh) followed up with a single before being driven in by 3B Marques Inman’s (West Virginia) RBI double. Inman would also come around to score on a wild pitch after C Evan Pace (Southeastern Louisiana) hit a single to put runners on the corners. Finally, Pace would cross home plate for the fourth run of the inning on RF Lamar Briggs’ (Jackson St.) fielder’s choice ground ball. The Grays wouldn’t score another run until the sixth inning where Inman reached first on an error. Pace then hit a 1-2 fastball into right for a single, advancing Inman to second. Then, when Inman attempted a steal at third, Giant’s catcher Trey Martinez sailed a through into left field that scored Inman and moved Pace to third. 1B Tyler Thomas (Shepherd) then hit a sacrifice fly into right that easily scored Pace giving the Grays a 6-3 lead. The pitching for the Grays was solid as well. Starter David Giusti (Lafayette) went four and two thirds innings, allowing only two earned runs (three in total), six hits and struck out seven batters. RHP Matthew Dalke (Southeastern Louisiana) relieved Giusti in the fifth inning and shut out the Giants the rest of the way, striking out four and only conceding four hits. Dalke picked up the win. The Grays will try and continue this hot streak Thursday night at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy against the SIlver Spring-Tacoma T-Bolts (7-7) at home. The probable starting match up is set to be Bo Burrup (BYU) for the Grays vs. Chih-Yuan Lai (1-0) of the visiting T-Bolts. Burrup has a 2-0 record on the season. Game time is 7pm.
