GAME RECAP (Grays vs. Express 6-9-16)
By: DCGrays Radio: Josh Shelton @JoshNLISports After dropping the first two games of the season, the DC Grays put a tally in the win column on Thursday night, winning 8-4 over the Rockville Express at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Grays did their first bit of damage with a five-run second inning. The Grays batted around the order on only two hits – the biggest a long double by RF Vinnie Catanza (Florida Atlantic U.) that drove in two runs. Catanza would eventually come around to score on a throwing error before the inning was over. RHP David Giusti (Lafayette) got the win tonight, going five and two thirds innings and allowing four runs before being replaced by LHP Jake Erikson (San Diego St.). Erikson, tonight’s Player of the Game, didn’t allow a hit during his three and a third innings pitched. In the eighth inning, with the Grays clinging to a 5-4 lead, the home team bats came alive again and put the game out of reach. 3B Marques Inman (West Virginia) lead off the inning with a stand up double off the center field fence. DH Zach McCrum (Eastern Kentucky) was hit by a pitch for a second time, and LF Luke Robinson (Lafayette) drove in both Inman and McCrum with a two-run triple. Robinson would come in to score the eighth and final run for the Grays when a routine fly ball dropped. The Grays will look to add to their win total Friday night where they will take on the FCA Herndon Braves at 7:00pm at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
