Leeds Earns Patriot League Rookie of the Week HonorsEASTON, Pa. – Lafayette’s freshman right hander Mitch Leeds was chosen as the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week after his most impressive pitching performance of the season. In front of a national television audience, Leeds fired eight scoreless innings, while allowing just three hits in a 1-0 extra-inning loss to Navy.
The game was originally scheduled for seven innings, but went nine as each team posted zeros on the scoreboard through the first eight frames. As Leeds kept the Midshipmen offense in check, he did so by not allowing a hit in the first 5.2 innings and retired the first nine hitters he faced. The first-ever Patriot League weekly accolade for Leeds comes after the longest outing of his career, in which he retired 28 of the 31 batters he faced.
