Harrison Farmer (Furman) and Greg Olenski (Maryland) each hit long home runs today as the Grays recorded one of their best offensive outings of the young season to top the Youse’s Orioles 6-3 at Hoy Field. Farmer’s blast landed across the street beyond the fence in left field to tie the game at one in the second inning. In the fifth, with the Grays clinging to a 2-1 lead, Olenski powered up, clearing the fence in left for a two-run shot that would give the Grays all the insurance runs they would need. Right hander Colin Kelly, a recent signee from Catholic University, scattered seven hits across seven innings to allow only three runs and Jayson Yano (Stevens Tech) and Chris Nee (Catholic) each threw a scoreless inning in relief to lock down the game. Farmer and Olenski weren’t the only ones to bust out for the Grays, with every starter except right fielder Brandon Kiser (Grambling State) recording at least one hit. Other offensive stars included catcher Cody Walker (Mississippi State) and center fielder Desmond Stegall (Grambling State), who each reached base four times in the game, Stegall throwing in an RBI triple and two stolen bases for good measure. For the Orioles, shortstop Sergio Leon, the league’s leading hitter entering play, led the way with two hits and a run scored. The Grays play next on Wednesday, June 19th, at 6:30 pm against the Baltimore Redbirds at the Redbirds home field at Calvert Hall High School in Calvert Hall, Maryland.
