The Grays lost their fifth straight game on Wednesday, 2-1 to the Alexandria Aces. Starter Chunner Nyberg (BYU) threw a complete game for the Grays, but the two unearned runs he gave up in the second were enough to seal his fate, as the Grays recorded only five hits against a succession of four Alexandria pitchers. The Grays put up their solitary run with two outs in the sixth when Will Benenson (Franklin and Marshall) singled home Greg Olenski (Maryland), but the next batter Peyton Fuller (Troy University) grounded out with the tying run in scoring position to end the inning. Benenson had two hits for the Grays while Nyberg struck out one and allowed only six baserunners in his eight innings. The game was moved to Hoy Field due to field conditions at Alexandria’s home field, but the Aces remained the home team. The Grays play next on Friday, July 5th at 7:00 pm against the last-place Herndon Braves at Alan McCullock Field in Herndon, VA.
