Rising interest in baseball throughout the District, after the absence of a major league baseball team for 33 years, helped launch the newly reconstituted DC Grays, a Cal Ripken League collegiate-based team, in the summer of 2012. Staffed and run by an all-volunteer group whose motivation is an inordinate love of baseball, the DC Grays are one of a 12-team wood-bat league made up of teams from the metropolitan area. The Grays are the only representative from the District.
