Will begin play at Gallaudet University in JuneExciting summer college baseball is coming to DC this June! The DC Grays are the newest member of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, one of the nation’s best summer college baseball leagues. Washington, DC will be the summer home for some of the best college baseball players from all over the country, as well as some of the top local players from the DC area.
The Grays were founded and named in honor of the great Homestead Grays, the Negro League champions of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The Homestead Grays were one of the great baseball teams of all time, and they played at Griffith Stadium, the home of the Washington Senators. The DC Grays will look to build on this rich baseball tradition in Washington, DC. In fact, our home field at Gallaudet University is located less than two miles from the old Boundary Field on Florida Avenue NW—the predecessor to Griffith Stadium and one of the first ballparks in the nation’s capital. In order to promote the great game of baseball in Washington, DC, the Grays will have an extensive youth baseball outreach program targeted to underprivileged kids in the Washington, DC area. This outreach program will be a partnership between the DC Grays, the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, and the Sports Management, Academics, and Recreational and Training (SMART) program. More information on these camps and clinics will be available in the coming weeks.
