T-Bolts hammer GraysJune 29, 2012 – The homestanding Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts cooled off the red-hot DC Grays, banging out 16 runs on 15 hits en route to a 16-6 victory.
Grays’ LF John Beaubein (Seton Hall) provided firepower with two solo home runs, giving him five for the season. RF Josh Powell (Alcorn State) and C Blake Overmiller (Catonsville CC) also had two hits each for the Grays. Click here for stats and the boxscore. The loss drops the Grays to 10-11 on the season. After Saturday’s game at Alexandria was cancelled due to storm damage, the Grays will return home to Hoy Field on Sunday at 5:00pm to take on the Bethesda Big Train.

Grays sweep Orioles in twinbillJune 24, 2012 – In a taut afternoon doubleheader at Hoy Field, the D.C. Grays (8-9) twice defeated the Youse’s Orioles by scores of 5-4 and 7-5. In the opening game the Grays started slow, falling behind 4-0 in the 6th, before a two run shot by LF John Beaubien (Seton Hall) opened the floodgates. The Grays would eventually score three more in the inning following a triple from RF Josh Powell (Alcorn State). Grays pitcher Danny O’Donnell (George Washington) went seven effective innings for a complete game, sending the Orioles down in order to close out the win in the seventh. In the second game, Grays’ starter Joel Castillo (Morehead State) endured a difficult beginning to the game allowing four runs in the second inning. However, the Grays came charging back in the bottom half of the second with six hits and five runs. Castillo bounced back to pitch six strong innings and, following Grays runs in the fifth and sixth innings, was credited with the win. The Grays got production from up and won the batting order, with Powell following up his strong first game with two more hits and an RBI. CF Billy Bissell (Gallaudet) contributed two hits as well, as did RF Tommy Barksdale (Gallaudet). Click here for stats and the boxscore. The Grays three-game winning streak moved the team into fifth-place in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. The Grays look to build on this winning streak on the road tonight against the Vienna River Dogs at 7:00pm. Grays outslug Braves again.June 28, 2012 – For the second time in less than a week, the DC Grays and Herndon Braves sent baseballs flying all over McCulloch Field. The Grays jumped out to a big lead before the Braves bats came alive and roughed up the Grays bullpen. In the end, the Grays held on for a 15-10 road win–the team’s fifth win in six games.
Grays CF Josh Powell (Alcorn State) and DH Manny Cabreja (Columbia) led the attack–each with three hits, including a home run. C Brian Robbett (Greensboro) also had three hits, driving in three runs. Danny O’Donnell (George Washington) ran his record to 3-0 on the season with another solid outing, as he scattered seven hits and one walk over six innings and left with an 8-1 lead. The win lifted the Grays to .500 (10-10) for the first time since the first week of the season, and with nearly half the season complete the expansion Grays are in fourth place in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. The Grays travel to Montgomery Blair Stadium on Friday to take on the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts at 7:00pm. Grays shut down AcesJune 27, 2012 – DC Grays Grays starter Rob Rizzitelli (Pace University) threw a complete game tonight to shut down the Alexandria Aces 3-1 as the Grays won their fourth time in five games. The win at Hoy Field moves the Grays (9-10) into a tie for fifth place in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League.
Rizzitelli scattered ten hits, with just two walks against eight strike outs. SS Zach Lopes (Delaware) led the team with three hits and an RBI, and LF Tommy Barksdale (Gallaudet) and DH John Beaubien also had one RBI each. Click here for stats and the boxscore. The Grays take the field tomorrow against the Braves in Herndon at 7:00pm as they look to continue their impressive play. Light-hitting Grays lose at ViennaJune 25, 2012 – The DC Grays’ three-game winning streak was stopped short by excellent Vienna River Dogs pitching, as the hosts won 4-2 at Warhawk Field.
The Grays line-up barely touched three Vienna pitchers. A long solo home run by DH John Beaubein (Seton Hall) in the second inning was the offensive highlight for the Grays. DC’s other run was scored when 2B Jarrett Jack (Ball State) was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a Vienna error. Click here for stats and the boxscore. The Grays wasted a solid outing by Joe Donino (Columbia), who tossed a complete game in the losing effort. Returning home to Hoy Field after a day off, the Grays will host the Alexandria Aces at 5:00pm on Wednesday. Grays win slugfest against BravesJune 23, 2012 – The Grays hot-hitting continued Friday night, as they won a 14-13 high-scoring affair against the homestanding Herndon Braves. The Grays moved to 6-9 on the season, their inaugural season in the Cal Ripken League.
Grays C Brian Robbett (Greensboro) led the hit parade with four hits and five RBI, including a grand slam. LF John Beaubein (Seton Hall) had three hits and SS Zach Lopes (Delaware) and 3B Troy Marrow (NC Central) had two hits apiece. The big offensive output made a winner out of do-everything Mike Genovese (Seton Hall), who came in from his position at 2B to pitch three innings of effective relief. Grays starter Rob Rizzitelli (Pace University) struggled, but wasn’t helped by sloppy Grays defense. The Grays made six errors over the course of the game. Down 13-4 going into the 7th inning the Grays rallied to cut the deficit to 14-9 in the 9th before ultimately falling. Grays DH John Beaubien (Seton Hall) led the team with three hits and two RBIs, followed by 3B Troy Marrow (NC Central) and C Manny Cabreja (Columbia) with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Grays drop Nats for second straight winJune 20, 2012 – The DC Grays won their second straight game at home tonight, beating the Southern Maryland Nationals 6-2 at Hoy Field to improve to 5-8 in their inaugural season.
The Grays were paced by the pitching of right-hander Joe Donino (Columbia), who scattered just three hits over 7 1/3 innings to secure the win. Grays C Blake Overmiller (Catonsville CC) led the offensive attack with a home run and a triple, and SS Zach Lopes (Delaware) chipped in with two hits and two runs.
