Washed out weekend for GraysJuly 15, 2012 – The DC Grays were taken down by Mother Nature this weekend, as one game was postponed because of rain and another was suspended with the score tied after an extended delay.
Saturday’s game in Waldorf against the Southern Maryland Nationals was rained out, and the rain date has not yet been announced. On Sunday, the Grays hosted the Herndon Braves at Hoy Field. While other Braves-Grays games this season have been high-scoring, this one was a pitcher’s duel. The Grays Rob Rizzitelli (Pace) and the Braves’ Mike Kaufman (Binghamton) each pitched shutout ball until the game was halted by rain and lightning. Rizzitelli was particularly sharp, allowing just three hits and walk while striking out eight in five innings of work. When the game resumed, each team pushed across two runs before the game was suspended after eight innings with the score tied 2-2. The game will be completed on Saturday, July 21st before the regularly-scheduled game between the Gray and Braves in Herndon. The Grays return to action Monday night, when they travel to Vienna to face the River Dogs.
