Grays drop red-hot Big TrainJuly 23, 2012 – The DC Grays are playing well at the right time, winning their fourth straight game by defeating the Bethesda Big Train 10-7 in come-from-behind fashion at Hoy Field. The win moves the Grays to 16-18 on the season with less than a week to play, just a half-game behind in the chase for the sixth and final Ripken League playoff spot.
The Grays were down 6-3 in the fifth inning before storming back to take control of the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the eighth. The Grays mounted their come back with the longball, as three Grays homered–SS Zach Lopes (Delaware), DH Blake Overmiller (Catonsville CC), and LF John Beaubien (Seton Hall). 3B Mike Genovese (Seton Hall) and C Manny Cabreja (Columbia) chipped in with two hits each. Blake Louscher (Central Michigan) won his fourth game of the season with three solid innings of relief, and Stephen Paladino (Felician) pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Click here for stats and the boxscore. The Grays play an oddball double-header Tuesday in Alexandria. The team plays the Southern Maryland Nationals at 3:00pm at Frank Mann Field, in what was supposed to have been a Nationals home game but was rained out on July 14. The Grays then play the Alexandria Aces at 7:00pm in a make-up of a rescheduled game from June 30.
