GAME RECAP (Grays vs. Express 6-9-16)
By: DCGrays Radio: Josh Shelton @JoshNLISports After dropping the first two games of the season, the DC Grays put a tally in the win column on Thursday night, winning 8-4 over the Rockville Express at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Grays did their first bit of damage with a five-run second inning. The Grays batted around the order on only two hits – the biggest a long double by RF Vinnie Catanza (Florida Atlantic U.) that drove in two runs. Catanza would eventually come around to score on a throwing error before the inning was over. RHP David Giusti (Lafayette) got the win tonight, going five and two thirds innings and allowing four runs before being replaced by LHP Jake Erikson (San Diego St.). Erikson, tonight’s Player of the Game, didn’t allow a hit during his three and a third innings pitched. In the eighth inning, with the Grays clinging to a 5-4 lead, the home team bats came alive again and put the game out of reach. 3B Marques Inman (West Virginia) lead off the inning with a stand up double off the center field fence. DH Zach McCrum (Eastern Kentucky) was hit by a pitch for a second time, and LF Luke Robinson (Lafayette) drove in both Inman and McCrum with a two-run triple. Robinson would come in to score the eighth and final run for the Grays when a routine fly ball dropped. The Grays will look to add to their win total Friday night where they will take on the FCA Herndon Braves at 7:00pm at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.

This year the Grays have organized a host of extracurricular events for the players. Washington, DC is one of the most fit cities in America, so our first event was to engage the players in a “kettlebell” workout. Dynamic Solutions owned and operated by Darius Gilbert is one of the premier sports training facilities in the area. Darius and his team organized a hour and a half long workout designed to reduce injury and improve arm strength. As our players found out, the core is critical and if you want to play well you have to be strong and balanced. If nothing else the Grays will now be the strongest team in the league. The Grays (0-2) showed some late inning life in last night’s loss on the road at Silver Spring. They look to bounce back tonight hosting the Rockville Express (1-2). Tonight David Giusti (Lafayette) will take the mound for his first start of the season for the Grays. The Grays look to overcome some early season jitters that have led to both losses so far. Errors and numerous men left on base will be the challenge that the team needs to overcome. First Pitch is scheduled for 7p at the home of the Dc Grays the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (3675 Ely Place SE, Washington, DC). GAME RECAP (Grays at T-Bolts 6-8-2016)
DCGrays.com Press: By Blane Crouse @bcrouse_6 The Grays traveled to Blair Stadium to face the T Bolts with hopes of getting in the win column after a loss in the season opener. Unfortunately the Grays fell just short, losing 7-5. The game saw some good performances be several Grays. After Matthew Dalke (Southeastern Louisiana) drew the start for the Grays and pitched four innings, he was relieved by Bo Burrup (BYU). Burrup pitched three dominant innings for the Grays, not allowing a hit and striking out seven batters. Even with Burrup’s outstanding pitching the Grays found themselves in a 7-2 hole entering the top of the 9th. In the top of the 9th the Grays quickly loaded the bases as Parker Farley (Alabama-Huntsville), Jawan McAllister (Pittsburgh) and Tanner Sampson (Mount St. Mary’s) all reached base. Marques Inman (West Virginia) then drove in Farley to make the score 7-3. McAllister and Sampson then both scored on wild pitches making it 7-5. Unfortunately the Grays could not complete the rally. Marques Inman went 2-5 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base to lead the Grays. Jawan McAllister went 2-4 and scored two runs. The Grays return home Thursday as they take on the Rockville Express and look to get their first win of the year. The game will be at 7:00pm at The Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. GAME PREVIEW (GRAYS at T-BOLTS)
7p at Blair High School Stadium (51 University Boulevard East, Silver Spring, MD 20901) DCGrays.com Press After taking a crushing loss in the season opener last night by the hands of the Bethesda Big Train, the Grays look to get into the win column tonight. The Grays travel to Silver Spring to take on the Thunderbolts for their first road game of the season. The game will be held at the T-Bolts home field at Blair High School in Montgomery County with a 7pm start time. On the mound to start for the Grays tonight is Matt Dalke (SE Louisiana) making his first start of the season. GAME RECAP (Grays vs Big Train 6-7-2016)
DCGrays.com Radio: By Josh Shelton The DC Grays looked to start their Ripken League season off on the right foot against the Bethesda Big Train Tuesday night at the Washington Nationals Academy in the home opener for both teams. Unfortunately, the Big Train had other ideas – and the final tally was a lopsided 13-1 Grays loss. RHP Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) was given the start against the Big Train’s RHP Sean Berry (U. of San Diego). Both pitchers got off to a hot start, each retiring the first six batters they faced. Rosenblum-Larson, however, would give up four runs on 2 hits in the third, while Berry would continue his dominance up until the fifth inning. In that frame, 1B Tyler Thomas (Shepherd U.) would walk on six pitches and would score on C Lucas Martinez’s (Cal. St.-San Bernadino) RBI double. That would be it for the Grays’ scoring for the night. The dagger of the night came from a Big Train seven-run eighth inning and the Grays would not answer, although they threatened in the bottom of the ninth after LF Luke Robinson’s (Lafayette) double and Thomas’ single. Those hits, however, were just that, a threat, and the Grays could not surmount a 13-1 loss to the Bethesda Big Train. The Grays, who only had three hits, will look to get into the win column tomorrow night where they will travel to Blair Stadium take on the Silver Spring-Tacoma T-Bolts at 7:00pm. RHP Matthew Dalke (SE Louisiana) will take the mound for the Grays. The D.C. Grays kickoff their season tonight with a 7pm home opener against the Bethesda Big Train. The Grays’ home field is the showcase Main Field at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy at Fort DuPont (3675 Ely Place SE, Washington DC).

Grays Baseball and the Washington Nationals can work together to help revive baseball in D.C.” Grays General Manager Antonio Scott said Ross’s presence with D.C. Grays Baseball “gives us that next-level mentorship that can trickle down to our collegiate players, which in turn will trickle down to the youth we train and develop.” D.C. Grays Baseball, which also operates youth baseball camps and clinics in the District, recently announced it will be bringing Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) youth baseball program to the District. The RBI program is entering its 27th year.
